The treatment of chronic cough in Chinese medicine needs to be combined with evidence-based therapy. “All five viscera and six internal organs cause coughing, not only the lungs”, which means that not all diseases that can trigger coughing occur in the lungs. In Chinese medicine, the clinical evidence includes dryness that injures the lung, liver fire that offends the lung, phlegm-heat that congests the lung, and phlegm clouding that blocks the lung. However, for the treatment of chronic cough in Chinese medicine, we hope that patients can go to a specialized Chinese medicine hospital to seek guidance from a Chinese medicine doctor.
