What is the difference between a chronic cough and an allergic cough?

Chronic cough is generally defined as a condition that lasts >8 weeks, with cough as the only or main symptom, and can have a variety of causes, which can be caused by allergies. Allergic cough, on the other hand, is mainly an allergic reaction to an allergen and is shorter in duration than chronic cough and is usually accompanied by other allergic manifestations of the cough. Once the type of cough has been identified, the appropriate treatment is chosen on a case-by-case basis.
