What is the pain in the eyes when watching welding?

Pain in the eyes from welding is known as electrophthalmia, an inflammatory disease caused by damage to the cornea and conjunctival epithelium caused by ultraviolet light from welding. The symptoms are redness and swelling of the eyelids, congestion and edema of the conjunctiva, foreign body sensation in the eye, pain, photophobia, tearing, and fear of opening the eyes. It is recommended to go to the hospital for examination to rule out foreign bodies in the eye, to give some surface anesthetics for analgesic treatment of the disease, and to apply eye ointment in the conjunctival sac to relieve the symptoms of painful foreign body sensation in the eye. Levofloxacin eye drops and 20% calf blood deprotein extract ophthalmic gel can be given to promote the repair of corneal epithelium and prevent infection of the corneal conjunctiva. The irritation of the eye usually disappears in about 24-48 hours.
