Ten tips to prevent cancer

The American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) and the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) have launched the third edition of the Global Report on Diet, Nutrition, Physical Activity and Cancer Prevention. This report is based on the results of hundreds of studies and data on 51 million people, including 3.5 million cancer cases, and presents 10 recommendations for cancer prevention, which is the most comprehensive and authoritative report. 1. Maintain a healthy weight. Keep your weight in a healthy range to avoid weight gain in adulthood. 2. Stay physically active. Any form of exercise can help reduce the risk of cancer. 3. Eat a diet rich in grains, vegetables, fruits and legumes. A diet based on plant foods (such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains and legumes), which contain dietary fiber and other nutrients, can reduce the risk of cancer. Plant-based foods can also help us maintain a healthy weight, thereby reducing the risk of cancer, because most of them are lower in energy. 4. Limit the consumption of fast foods and other processed foods high in fat, starch or sugar. Evidence shows that consumption of fast food and Western-style diets is a cause of weight gain, overweight and obesity, which is associated with 12 types of cancer. 5. Limit consumption of processed meat products. For processed meats (ham, bacon, bologna), evidence suggests that cancer risk begins to increase even at very low consumption levels. 6.Limit the intake of sugary beverages. Evidence suggests that consumption of sugary drinks can lead to weight gain, overweight and obesity, and is associated with 12 types of cancer. Sugary drinks provide energy, but may not produce the same sense of satiety as food, thus promoting excessive energy intake. 7. Limit alcohol consumption. Moderate alcohol consumption has a preventive effect on coronary heart disease. But for cancer prevention, the evidence shows: alcohol in any form is a strong carcinogen. It has been linked to six different types of cancer. If you must drink, consume no more than 25 grams of alcohol a day for men and no more than 15 grams for women. 8. Do not use dietary supplements to prevent cancer. Studies have shown that supplementing with high doses of carotenoids is associated with an increased risk of lung cancer in smokers. 9. Insist on breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is good for both mother and baby. 10.Follow the advice of professionals after cancer diagnosis if you can.
