Wuxi San is composed of the following Chinese medicines: Radix et Rhizoma Ginseng, Radix et Rhizoma Ulmoides, Radix et Rhizoma Ginseng, Radix et Rhizoma Hai Jin Sha, Radix et Rhizoma Polygonati.
In Wuxi San, Jinjincao and Hai Jinsha are used to promote drainage of stones and relieve drenching; Uljin activates blood circulation and relieves pain, and promotes circulation of qi and relief of depression; Jin Neijin transports the spleen and eliminates food, and dissolves stones and relieves drenching; and Huobao Cao is used to clear away heat and promote dampness. The combination of the five medicines together can clear heat and dampness, relieve liver and depression, promote blood circulation, remove blood stasis and expel stones.
This formula is used in the treatment of cholelithiasis, cholecystitis and other liver and gallbladder diseases, of which cholecystitis is especially caused by liver and gallbladder stagnation or liver and gallbladder dampness and heat, which is often treated with this formula with good results. The contraindications and adverse effects of this drug are not clear.
