With the gradual popularity of health checkups, more and more people are being told that they have gallbladder polyps and need to go to the hepatobiliary surgery department of a major hospital for further consultation and treatment. Many patients feel worried and anxious because of this. In fact, gallbladder polyps is one of the most common benign gallbladder diseases, as long as we understand the following points, we can easily cope with. 1, we usually say “gallbladder polyp-like lesions” is an ultrasound diagnosis, in the ultrasound examination in the performance of moderate echogenicity and not accompanied by acoustic shadow of the gallbladder superfluous organisms will be collectively referred to as “gallbladder polyp-like lesions”. Most of them are cholesterol polyps, and a few of them are adenomatous polyps. 2. Cholesterol polyps do not cause cancer and usually have no symptoms, so they do not need treatment, as long as they are reviewed annually. Adenomatous polyps, on the other hand, are new organisms in the gallbladder and have cancerous potential, so they need to be removed surgically. 3. Cholesterol polyps are often multiple, while adenomatous polyps are more likely to appear as single. In addition, it is not easy to distinguish cholesterol polyps and adenomatous polyps by ordinary ultrasound. If gallbladder polyps larger than 1cm are found during the follow-up period, gallbladder ultrasonography can be done to further clarify the diagnosis. 4.Biliary surgery is a concern for many people, and many patients subjectively hope to cut only the polyps and keep the gallbladder. But in fact, the majority of doctors at home and abroad do not recommend this, mainly because of the following reasons: (1) cholecystectomy has a history of more than 100 years since its birth, and no serious adverse consequences have been found in the long-term follow-up. Only a few patients have experienced an increase in the frequency of stools after eating fatty foods, but they usually recover within a few months to a year after surgery. (2) After partial removal of the gallbladder, for various reasons, the gallbladder can become impaired in emptying, causing secondary stones and requiring another surgery to remove the gallbladder. Knowing the above basic knowledge and then asking the doctor to answer your questions in a targeted manner will often make the doctor-patient communication more effective.
