Commonly used syphilis serologic tests such as fluorescent spirochete antibody absorption test FTA-ABS, which can be positive 3 weeks after infection in syphilis patients; STD research laboratory slide test VDRL and rapid plasma reactive element cyclic card test RPR in 4 weeks after infection results can be positive.
The sensitivity of the detection tests varies according to the stage of syphilis. For stage 1 syphilis, FTA-ABS test has the highest sensitivity; for advanced syphilis, some patients have negative VDRL and RPR tests.
