No matter what age, hair plays an important role in people’s lives, and having healthy and shiny hair can make people full of vitality and confidence, and some beauty lovers even regard it as more important than gold. However, as the pace of life accelerates and mental stress increases, hair loss is becoming a worry for more and more modern people and is showing signs of rejuvenation. Seborrheic alopecia, also known as male pattern baldness and androgenic baldness, is a slow progression of baldness on the forehead, temporal and top of the head after puberty, which can occur in both men and women, but is more common in male patients. Clinically, patients with this disease often have symptoms such as increased seborrhea, dandruff, dry hair and itching. It belongs to the category of “hair moth alopecia” and “hair ringworm” in Chinese medicine. At present, Western medicine believes that the cause of seborrheic alopecia is not very clear, often with a family history, and androgen excess or hair follicles sensitive to androgens have an important relationship. The main treatment is to take some anti-androgen drugs internally, such as finasteride, flutamide, and androstadienone. Finasteride, for example, usually takes 3 months to 6 months to show therapeutic effects, and often takes several years or even a lifetime. 5% of male patients taking this drug may experience side effects such as loss of libido, impotence, and testicular pain. Finasteride is not suitable for female patients and is contraindicated in women of childbearing age, and many patients are deterred by its potential to cause external genital abnormalities in male infants. Based on more than 20 years of clinical experience, I concluded that the causes of seborrheic alopecia are based on two main categories: dampness and heat and blood deficiency and wind dryness. The treatment is based on the principle of evidence-based treatment and focuses on the overall internal and external combination of treatment: internal tonics to regulate the body functions as a whole; external tinctures to act directly on the lesions; combined with other TCM characteristic therapies, such as plum blossom acupuncture, hot compresses and seeds buried in ear points, to unblock the meridians, regulate the flow of qi and blood and promote hair growth. Clinical experience shows that this method has the following advantages: 1, fast results, an average of 20 days to see improvement; 2, overall regulation, can regulate the patient’s mood, alleviate insomnia, menstrual disorders, dry stools, and other uncomfortable symptoms; 3, low cost, the average monthly treatment cost of about 300 yuan; 4, no significant adverse reactions. Ms. Chen, a bank employee in her 40s, has a happy family (her husband is considerate and her daughter is lively and understanding), but she is often worried. It turns out that she has been troubled by seborrheic alopecia for more than a decade, and in recent years her hair is getting thinner and thinner, and it is not covering the top of her hair. She was afraid of washing her hair, and every time she washed her hair, her hair always fell off in large quantities; she often had insomnia at night and dreamed that all her hair had fallen out. Whenever she heard of any treatment for seborrheic alopecia, she had to try it, and she used a lot of Chinese medicine, western medicine and prescriptions, but her hair was still not humane and kept falling out. The result of taking Chinese medicine for a week, hair loss was significantly reduced; what surprised her even more was that within 3 months, a lot of small hairs started to grow slowly on the top of her head and forehead; the hair on the top of her head grew to more than twice its original size in about half a year. Ms. Chen was so happy that her gloomy mood was swept away and she praised me for my excellent medical skills. Every patient with seborrheic alopecia is highly recommended to come to our clinic for treatment. In addition to medication, establishing good lifestyle habits is an indispensable part of ensuring the effectiveness of treatment. Patients with hair loss should establish healthy eating habits, not overeating and eating less spicy and fatty products. To keep body and mind relaxed, do not stay up late, learn scientific hair care, reduce the number of dyeing and perming. After the internal use of Chinese medicine and the adjustment of living habits, the hair growth of most patients can be improved.
