The problem of choking on water in the acute stage of cerebral infarction is caused by the site of infarction, which is usually in the medulla oblongata, causing difficulty in swallowing and choking on water, and in severe cases, it can lead to food and water accidentally entering the trachea, causing asphyxia and lung infection and endangering the patient’s life. In the acute stage, the patient should be given a nasal feeding tube as soon as possible, and the food should be blended into a paste with a blender and then injected into the stomach through the nasal feeding tube. In the recovery period of cerebral infarction, the patient should be given a little less water at each feeding, and must drink sitting down instead of lying down. If these do not solve the problem, the patient should be allowed to keep the nasal feeding tube and use it to feed water directly into the stomach. Late recovery can be improved by acupuncture and pharyngeal needles to improve the symptoms.
