The exact location of the Blood Sea point is in the anterior femoral area, 2 inches above the medial end of the patellar base, at the bulge of the medial femoral (inner thigh) muscle.
Blood Sea point is an acupoint of the Spleen meridian, and the simple clinical method is to put one’s left palm over the patella of one’s right knee, relax the fingers, and the place corresponding to the thumb is the Blood Sea point of the right leg.
In clinical practice, this point can tonify and invigorate blood, regulate menstruation and stop leucorrhea (to regulate menstruation and reduce abnormally increased leucorrhea), and is used to treat gynecological disorders such as metrorrhagia (excessive menstrual flow or dribbling) and irregular menstruation, as well as blood-heat skin disorders such as cryptorchid rash, eczema, and dengtoxin (acute infections in which the skin turns red as if it were coated with pigment) and medial knee and femoral pain.
Acupuncture operations on Blood Sea points need to be carried out by specialized physicians.
