Lattice-like degeneration in the periphery of the retina is usually due to high myopia, and prophylactic treatment may be considered. Myopia over 600 degrees is considered high myopia, which is prone to fundopathy such as retinal peripheral lattice-like degeneration and requires regular fundus examination. Preventive treatments such as laser photocoagulation can be performed under the supervision of a doctor to prevent retinal detachment when there are flashes of light and dark shadows in front of the eyes. Peripheral retinal lattice-like degeneration is usually asymptomatic and can be present in the general population. In combination with high myopia and a history of retinal detachment in the opposite eye, prophylactic treatment may be prescribed. Patients with high myopia should have their fundus examined regularly and should pay attention to reasonable eye use and avoid strenuous activities.
