Chinese Herbal Medicine for Cough and Phlegm

Cough-relieving and phlegm-reducing herbs include herbs that warm cold phlegm, such as half-summer, tiannanxing, white aconite; herbs that clear hot phlegm, such as bei mou, qian hu, gua gua gua; and herbs that relieve coughs and calm asthma, such as almonds, aristolochia, loquat leaves and so on. 1. Warming cold phlegm medicines: mostly warm, suitable for cold phlegm, wet phlegm symptoms, such as cough and asthma, phlegm and thin and other conditions. Commonly, there are half-summer, tiannanxing, white aconite, soap pods, suzi, white mustard seeds and so on. Long-term cough lung deficiency, yin deficiency and fire (Yin essence loss in the body, the emergence of excessive fire) people avoid using such drugs. 2. Clearing heat and phlegm medicine: mostly cold, suitable for phlegm and heat lungs, cough phlegm and sticky, as well as due to phlegm and heat caused by epilepsy and convulsions, scrofula and other diseases. Common medicines are beimu, qianhu, gua vulgaris, zhuzhu, haifushi, scapegrape and so on. Attention to Yin deficiency should be careful to use these drugs. 3. Cough and asthma medicine: the main role is to stop coughing, down the gas asthma, applicable to cough and asthma symptoms. Common drugs include almonds, aristolochia, loquat leaves, nasturtium, asparagus and so on. These drugs are contraindicated in cases of yin deficiency cough and loose stools.
