How to treat spinal bulge with hydrocephalus?

Treatment for spinal bulge with hydrocephalus begins with resolution of the hydrocephalus, usually by cerebrospinal fluid shunt surgery. After cerebrospinal fluid shunt surgery, the treatment of spinal cord bulging is also based on surgery. The purpose of the surgery is to release the adhesion between the spinal cord and the nerve roots, separate and reorganize the spinal cord and nerve roots, remove the bulging capsule, and close the subdural space with a meningeal graft. Early surgery is recommended for these patients, and possible complications of the procedure include nerve tissue damage, infection, wound necrosis or dehiscence, and cerebrospinal fluid leakage from the wound. Antibiotics should be routinely administered to prevent infection after surgery. The patient should be placed in prone or right lateral position for 72 hours after surgery, and can be supine or picked up when eating, and needs to be observed for neurological signs, subcutaneous fluid accumulation, and bulging fontanel.
