At what age does a child walk?

Most children walk around the age of 1 year. A small percentage of children do not learn to walk until 1.5 years of age, and if they are unable to walk unaided beyond 1.5 years of age, it is necessary to consult a doctor to check for pathologic factors. There are individual differences in the exact time a child will walk. The growth and development of infants and toddlers follow a certain pattern, generally at the age of 2 months will raise their head, 4 months will raise their chest, 6 months will sit alone, 8 months will crawl, and 12 months will walk independently. Some children develop a little earlier, walking at 11 months, but some develop later, learning to walk at 18 months. Therefore, it is normal for infants to walk at 11 to 18 months of age. If your child is unable to walk independently beyond the age of 1.5 years, it is recommended that you take your child to the hospital for a checkup to determine if there are any growth retardation or abnormal development of the bones and joints of the lower limbs. Vitamin D supplements can be given to your child as prescribed by your doctor to promote bone development.
