Surgical treatment of pediatric hernia disease

  Pediatric hernia, generally referred to as inguinal hernia, is one of the common diseases in pediatric surgery, with an incidence of 1-4%, higher in boys than in girls, and higher in premature babies, and can occur on both sides. The clinical manifestation is a reversible mass in the inguinal region of the child. In boys, the mass mostly enters the scrotum, and when the pressure in the abdominal cavity is increased by crying, forceful defecation, coughing, etc., the contents of the hernia may become embedded. The difficulty of treatment. The only way to cure pediatric hernia is surgery, therefore, pediatric hernia should receive thorough surgical treatment as early as possible.  The traditional surgical approach to pediatric hernia is open surgery, in which a large incision is made in the abdomen and the hernia sac is located and ligated at a high level. Minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery is an emerging surgical method in recent years, in which two small holes are made in the abdomen and the hernia sac is ligated under direct vision in the abdomen using a laparoscope and operating instruments, which has the following advantages compared with traditional surgery: small incision, light injury, possibility to explore bilateral hernias and get surgical treatment at the same time, fast recovery and short hospital stay.
