Minimally invasive surgical treatment has been gradually recognized and accepted by the general public, which has become one of the necessary equipment for people to choose medical treatment. The so-called minimally invasive treatment refers to the invasive examination or treatment of human tissue organs or cavities through the intervention of laparoscopic technology, which has the characteristics of small trauma, clear vision, and fast postoperative recovery of the patients compared with the traditional open treatment. This technology has been increasingly used in various fields of clinical medicine. Pediatric hernia, medical name inguinal hernia is one of the most common diseases in pediatric surgery, and is also the most common disease requiring surgical treatment in pediatric surgery. As with other common diseases, the pioneering and development of minimally invasive surgery has brought new options for the treatment of pediatric hernias. While people are concerned about curing the disease, they are also increasingly concerned about postoperative aesthetics. As a result, more patients will pursue more effective, reliable and reasonable treatment. Most people know it only as a terminological concept, which makes them have great doubts in their treatment choices. The first thing that should be clear to parents is that pediatric hernias can be treated with laparoscopic surgery, however, not all patients are suitable for this method. That said, both methods have their advantages and different patients should choose different methods. Traditional surgery has been clinically tested for decades and has been proven to be reliable and suitable for all children with hernias, and can be performed in general hospitals. Laparoscopic surgery, on the other hand, is a new treatment modality in recent years, which can only be well applied by doctors with experience in traditional surgery in large hospitals with better medical conditions and higher medical standards. With the accumulation of clinical experience, we believe that the treatment of pediatric hernia via laparoscopy has certain advantages. The transumbilical fossa laparoscopic sleeve technique currently practiced in our department makes the incision smaller and more invisible, addressing the demand for aesthetics. Transumbilical laparoscopic surgery reduces the incidence of postoperative scrotal edema or hematoma, and the rate of postoperative bilateral recurrence will be lower because the contralateral side can be explored and treated at the same time. Based on the current clinical experience, we believe that especially for girls’ hernia, bilateral hernia, recurrent hernia, and traffic syringomyelia, the use of modified single-port laparoscopic sleeve surgery has better therapeutic effect, and it is recommended for parents to choose to use it. However, for huge hernias, sliding hernias, non-traffic testicular or spermatic cord syringomyelia, it is more appropriate to choose traditional surgery.
