Is itching in the ear every day a precursor to cancer?

Daily itchy ears may be caused by a variety of reasons, such as eczema of the external ear canal, infection, cerumen (earwax) irritation, food allergies, etc. It is not necessarily a precursor to cancer. For example, patients with eczema in the external ear canal may experience itchy ears and yellow water after contact with allergens; for example, patients with fungal infections in the ear canal may experience itchy ears after using antibiotic ear drops for a long time, and the symptoms will usually disappear gradually with time after stopping the medication; if there is repeatedly cerumen in the ear canal and it is not cleaned in time, it may cause itchy ears due to repeated irritation, and such patients need to maintain ear canal hygiene, regular ear picking, etc.; if the patient is suffering from purulent otitis media, ear itching may also occur. In contrast, most cancers that invade the ears are painful rather than itchy, so itchy ears every day may not necessarily be cancer. If a patient’s ears itch frequently, it is recommended to go to an ENT clinic for an examination of the auricle and outer ear canal tympanic membrane to clarify the specific cause for targeted treatment. During the treatment period, you should not scratch with your hands to avoid causing infection.
