What types of patients are suitable for external ear reconstruction by the expansion method?

The expansion method of external ear reconstruction, which mostly requires three surgeries, is a more traditional surgical method in China and is more widely used, adapting to all patients, including those with traumatic and burned auricular defects. Nowadays, we mainly use it for patients who cannot undergo non-expansive outer ear reconstruction, such as patients with thicker skin in the mastoid area and lower hairline, and patients with ear defects after burns.
