Suspected baby accidentally swallowed foreign body to observe how long to prove that it is okay

If you suspect that your baby has swallowed a foreign body by mistake, it is recommended that you observe the baby for about a week. If a baby swallows a foreign body by mistake, it may get stuck in the throat or in the trachea or esophagus, and the baby will usually show symptoms such as crying, coughing, difficulty in breathing, red and swollen face and purple lips. If you suspect that your baby has swallowed a foreign body by mistake, parents should observe whether your baby is crying and having difficulty breathing, and whether eating is affected, etc. You should also check what foreign body you may have swallowed. If the foreign body obstructs the airway, it is recommended to observe for another 1 week if there is fever and cough or pneumonia symptoms. If the foreign body is swallowed into the intestinal tract, it can mainly cause abdominal distension and abdominal pain, which can usually be excreted in the stool within 1 week, so the observation time after swallowing the foreign body is about 1 week. Since respiratory obstruction is more urgent, once a baby is suspected of swallowing a foreign body by mistake, parents can try to put the baby on their knees and gently pat the baby’s back with their hands to observe whether the foreign body is discharged. If the baby has symptoms such as crying and difficulty in breathing, it is recommended to go to the hospital emergency room for treatment in time.
