A basal metabolism of 2,000 calories is outside the normal range and is on the high side. Typically, the basal metabolism of a normal woman is around 1,200 calories and that of a normal man is around 1,600 calories. A basal metabolism of 2,000 calories, therefore, is slightly on the high side, and will increase slightly if the patient is overweight or tall. A basal metabolism of 2,000 calories does not indicate that the patient has an abnormal body function. It is also important to observe whether the patient is accompanied by other uncomfortable symptoms, such as panic, sweating, and shaking hands, etc. Clinically, it is common for the basal metabolism to be elevated as a result of hyperthyroidism. Therefore, if the patient has persistent elevated basal metabolism, it is recommended to go to the hospital in time for examination, to clarify the cause of the disease and early treatment.
