1. 3. Non-biological: Usually, if the location of the foreign body does not exceed the isthmus of the external auditory canal and is not embedded, it can be extracted directly with a cerumen hook. Smooth foreign bodies can be removed by hooking the foreign body with a foreign body hook or a small spatula or other instruments that can be used to cross the foreign body along the gap. If the foreign body is large, sharp or deeply embedded, local or general anesthesia is needed to remove it, and if necessary, an intra-auricular incision should be made. Young patients should be removed under general anesthesia.
