Albinism is a genetic disorder in which the body lacks the enzyme tyrosinase, resulting in impaired melanin production, which causes a decrease or loss of pigmentation in the skin of the whole body or in localized areas of the skin. Albinism is a hereditary disease and is classified as autosomal recessive or X-linked recessive. Autosomal recessive inheritance is the most common type, which manifests as a generalized reduction or loss of skin pigmentation, while X-linked recessive inheritance manifests as ocular albinism, in which the patient only has a reduction or lack of eye pigmentation. The main symptoms of the patients are: the retina has no pigment, the pupil shows a light pink color, at the same time, the patients are prone to eye stinging, tearing and other discomforts in the sun. At the same time, the skin and hair are yellowish-white or white. There is no effective treatment for albinism. Usually pay attention to sunscreen and eye protection, reduce outdoor activities. Albinism is not self-healing and cannot be cured, but it generally does not affect the patient’s life expectancy, and if the patient has any discomfort, it is recommended to consult a doctor in a timely manner.
