The routine examination of chest and ascites includes the color of the chest and ascites, the transparency of the chest and ascites, the cell count of the chest and ascites, and whether the Levantine test of the chest and ascites is positive or negative. The routine examination of thoracoabdominal fluid can initially identify whether it is exudate or leaky fluid. If the Levantine test is positive, it is an exudate; if it is negative, it is a leaky fluid. If the color of the pleural ascites is bloody, a malignant pleural effusion should be considered; if it is pale yellow, tuberculosis should be considered; if it is celiac-colored, celiac disease should be considered. If the cell count of the pleural ascites is increased and the neutrophils are increased, infected pleural ascites should be considered.
