HPV, the human papillomavirus, can cause genital warts. HPV33 is a high-risk subtype that can cause warts and can also lead to cervical cancer in women. HPV33 positive has little chance of self-healing and requires aggressive treatment to eliminate the virus. The common drugs used today are antiviral drugs such as acyclovir and ganciclovir; drugs that enhance the body’s antiviral immunity, such as gamma-interferon, can also be applied.
