If the patient’s myopia has both a true myopia component and a pseudomyopia component, dilating the pupils will relax the patient’s spastic ciliary muscles, which will eliminate the myopia caused by eye fatigue, remove the pseudomyopia component, and the patient’s myopia may be reduced. If there is no pseudomyopia component in myopia, and all myopia is true myopia, the degree of myopia will not change after dilating the pupil.
In the case of hyperopia in children, the pupil dilation removes the regulation of the eye muscles, and the patient’s hyperopia may be higher or unchanged.
