Earthworm, i.e. Dilong, is usually used after concoction, with the effects of clearing heat, calming alarm and clearing the channels.
Dilong has the effects of clearing away heat, calming convulsions, clearing collaterals, calming asthma and inducing diuresis. It is mainly used in the treatment of high fever and delirium, epilepsy and convulsions, joint paralysis, numbness of limbs, hemiplegia (one side of the limbs can not move freely), lung fever, asthma and cough, edema and urination.
It is contraindicated in those with weak spleen and stomach or without solid heat. Excessive oral dosage of Dilong can lead to poisoning, mainly manifested as: headache, dizziness, blood pressure first rises and then falls, abdominal pain, gastrointestinal bleeding, palpitations (rapid heartbeat, often accompanied by panic), dyspnea and so on.
