How long does it usually take for a baby to recover from gastroenteritis?

How long it takes for a baby to return to normal with gastroenteritis cannot be generalized, but is mostly related to the severity of the condition and whether it is effectively treated. Gastroenteritis in babies can be caused by a variety of factors, including intestinal and extraintestinal infections, as well as non-infectious factors such as digestive tract dysfunction due to improper feeding. Generally speaking, if the child’s condition is mild, the cause is clearly identified and can be improved or even cured in 3-7 days after active treatment. However, if the condition is severe, the recovery time may be slightly longer. If not treated properly, shock, coma, or even more serious consequences may occur, and the treatment time will be longer. Therefore, when a baby develops gastroenteritis, he or she must seek medical attention in a timely manner. While actively cooperating with the doctor’s medication, attention should also be paid to adjusting the diet, such as feeding the child with lactose intolerance, using de-lactose formula or soy-based protein formula.
