Where to take your newborn’s temperature

Rectal temperature and axillary temperature measurements are both accurate for newborns, but axillary temperature measurements are more common. When conducting temperature measurement, rectal temperature measurement is the most accurate, because the rectal temperature is close to the temperature of the deep part of the human body, under normal circumstances, the rectal temperature should be 36.5 degrees to 37.5 degrees. However, due to the measurement of rectal temperature, the operation requirements are high, parents are not recommended to measure the anal temperature of newborns at home by themselves, so as not to cause unnecessary damage. Measuring the axillary temperature is relatively common and accurate. When measuring, it is necessary to pay attention to keep the newborn quiet so as not to cry and affect the measured temperature. Normal axillary temperature is between 36-37 degrees, if the external influence is excluded, and the temperature exceeds 37.3 degrees in several measurements, then fever is considered, and timely medical treatment is needed.
