Right upper abdomen and right upper rib pain may be caused by physiologic factors and pathologic factors (e.g., cholecystitis as well as liver damage).
1. Physiological factors: unhealthy living habits and dietary structure. When the body is overworked, drinking alcohol, eating too much spicy and stimulating food will also increase the burden on the liver, which is also one of the causes of right upper abdomen and right upper rib pain.
2. Pathologic factors
(1) Cholecystitis: Because cholecystitis is located in the right upper abdomen, if inflammation occurs, it is considered to be caused by bile stasis or bacterial infection, etc. When inflammation occurs in the gallbladder, it will also reflexively stimulate the intercostal nerves, which will result in the sensation of pain in the right upper rib cage. Therefore, cholecystitis patients will have right upper abdomen and right upper rib pain.
(2) Liver damage: mainly because the liver cells are damaged, resulting in liver enlargement, so that the tension of the envelope on the surface of the liver increases, and there are a lot of pain sensory nerves above the envelope, which will make the right upper abdomen and right upper rib pain.
If the patient has right upper abdomen and right upper rib pain, after excluding physiological factors, it is recommended to go to the hospital in time to find out the cause of the targeted treatment.
