Patients with coronary atherosclerosis often experience symptoms such as palpitations and chest pain, and in severe cases, myocardial infarction or even shock may occur. There is no so-called “best” treatment for coronary atherosclerosis, and its treatment includes general treatment, drug treatment, surgical treatment and so on.
1. General treatment: patients with coronary atherosclerosis should slow down the disease process by actively adjusting their life style, such as quitting smoking and drinking, minimizing the intake of high-fat food, appropriate physical exercise, weight control and so on.
2. Drug therapy: patients should follow the doctor’s instructions to apply lipid-lowering drugs (such as atorvastatin), anti-platelet drugs (such as aspirin) to stabilize plaque, prevent thrombosis, and reduce the risk of myocardial infarction; applying β-blockers (such as metoprolol) to reduce myocardial oxygen consumption; applying nitroglycerin and other medications to dilate coronary arteries, and improve symptoms of palpitations and angina such as chest pain.
3. Surgery: severe coronary atherosclerosis may lead to severe narrowing of coronary artery lumen, percutaneous coronary intervention or coronary artery bypass grafting should be carried out under doctor’s advice.
Coronary atherosclerosis patients should go to regular hospitals in time to improve the relevant examination, standardized treatment under the guidance of the doctor, so as to avoid delaying the condition, resulting in adverse consequences.
