How long do doctors usually recommend to rest after hysterectomy

A minimum of 1 month of rest is required after hysterectomy, and 2-3 months may be required if the patient is weak and has a slow recovery after surgery. There are two main surgical approaches to hysterectomy commonly used in clinical practice, including open surgery and laparoscopic surgery. Among them, laparoscopic total hysterectomy has the advantages of less trauma and faster recovery, and is a common surgical procedure in the clinic nowadays. In contrast, open hysterectomy is riskier and prone to complications such as hemorrhage, secondary infection, anemia or adjacent organ damage. Therefore, depending on the patient’s surgical method and health condition, the patient’s postoperative recovery time will be different, and the recommended rest time will also be different. It is generally recommended to adjust appropriately according to their own recovery situation or to follow the doctor’s prescription for rest. Patients should pay attention to strengthen nutrition after discharge, eat more protein-containing food and avoid spicy and cold food; if anemia exists, eat more food with high iron content, such as pig liver; pay attention to rest after surgery, avoid exertion, ensure sufficient sleep, and at the same time exercise appropriately, which is conducive to disease recovery.
