Plantain is the dried herb of Plantago Ovata or Plantago Platensis, which is effective in clearing heat and promoting diuresis, expelling phlegm, cooling blood and removing toxins (referring to the treatment of blood-heat and toxin impregnation). The adverse effects of Plantago Ovata are not clear. It is contraindicated in patients with deficiency and slippery essence.
