Effects of Panax ginseng, Salvia miltiorrhiza and Hawthorn Combination

Panax ginseng, Salvia miltiorrhiza and Hawthorn combination is effective in dispersing blood stasis, stopping bleeding, invigorating blood circulation, and subduing swelling and relieving pain (eliminating swelling and pain).
The efficacy of Panax notoginseng is to disperse blood stasis, stop bleeding, eliminate swelling and relieve pain. Panax notoginseng can be used for treatment of hemoptysis, vomiting blood, epistaxis, metrorrhagia (excessive menstrual flow or dribbling), bleeding from traumatic injuries, stabbing pain in the chest and abdomen, as well as bruises and pains. For the sake of medication safety, Panax ginseng should be used with caution in pregnant women, and it is not suitable to be used alone for bleeding due to deficiency of yin and blood heat.
Salvia miltiorrhiza has the efficacy of activating blood circulation to remove blood stasis, clearing menstruation and relieving pain, clearing the heart and removing vexation, cooling the blood and eliminating carbuncles (eliminating carbuncles and swellings by cooling the blood).
Salvia miltiorrhiza can be used in the treatment of chest paralysis (stuffy pain in the chest), heart pain, impediment in the abdomen (tangible or intangible lumps in the abdomen with a feeling of distension and pain), paralysis by heat (often manifested as burning, pain, redness and swelling of the joints and muscles), insomnia and heartburn, menstrual disorders, and menstrual pain and menstrual occlusion. However, Salvia miltiorrhiza should not be used with quinoa.
Hawthorn has the effects of eliminating food and strengthening stomach, promoting circulation of Qi, dispersing blood stasis, resolving turbidity and lowering fat (cleansing the body of impurities and reducing excess fat). It can be used in the treatment of stagnation of meat and food, distension of stomach and epigastric region, diarrhea and dysentery, menstrual closure with blood stasis, post-partum stasis, stabbing pain in heart and abdomen, chest paralysis and heartache as well as pain of hernia.
However, Hawthorn should be used with caution for those with weak spleen and stomach without stagnation and excessive secretion of gastric acid.
The combination of the above three herbs has the effects of dispersing blood stasis and stopping bleeding, invigorating blood circulation, reducing swelling and fixing pain, eliminating food and strengthening the stomach, promoting menstruation and relieving pain, and cooling the blood and eliminating carbuncles. However, for the sake of medication safety, one should avoid blindly combining Chinese herbs without authorization, and should combine Chinese herbs under the guidance of a doctor’s diagnosis.
