Antiviral Oral Liquid theoretically cannot treat herpes zoster, and may have some adjunctive effect on the treatment of herpes zoster, which requires anti-viral drugs against varicella-zoster virus such as acyclovir and valacyclovir.
Pharmacological studies of the relevant herbal ingredients in Antiviral Oral Liquid have shown that, for example, Banlangen and Gypsum have antiviral effects, and Forsythia has antimicrobial effects. Therefore, this drug may have some adjunctive effects in the treatment of herpes zoster, but clinically it is mainly indicated for colds and flu.
Herpes zoster is an acute infectious skin disease caused by varicella-zoster virus, which should be treated promptly with antiviral, nerve nutrition and pain relief. Currently approved antiviral drugs include acyclovir, valaciclovir, famciclovir, bromvudine and phosphonate. The oral antiviral solution, which is a Chinese medicinal preparation composed of Panax quinquefolium and Gypsum, has not been stipulated to be recommended for use.
Patients with herpes zoster are advised to visit the hospital as early as possible and take medication as prescribed after consulting the doctor’s advice, avoiding blind self-medication.
