Is mild psychosis hereditary?

Mild psychosis is not necessarily hereditary. Mild mental illness is a disease caused by a combination of factors and has some correlation with heredity, but it cannot be said to be absolutely hereditary. Studies have found that when both parents have mental illness, the heritability of the child is as high as 46%; the probability of brothers having the disease at the same time is 20%-30%. If a single parent has a mental illness, the heritability rate may be 0.5%-1%. Minor mental illnesses are not necessarily hereditary. However, psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and affective psychosis have a significantly higher prevalence of psychosis in the family than in the general population at large, and the chance of developing the disease is higher in those who are closely related by blood. The heritability of mental retardation and epileptic mental disorders also plays a considerable part in the pathogenic factors. It should be reminded that for patients with psychosis, it is recommended that family members accompany the patient to the hospital for standardized treatment to avoid delays and adverse consequences.
