In women, the liver is also on the right side, and in patients with transposition of the great arteries, i.e., mirror heart, then the liver is on the left side. Because of the anatomical features of normal human development, the liver is located on the right side, at the lower edge of the costal arch. Diseases of the hepatobiliary system can be marked by pain, fever, nausea, and vomiting in the upper right abdomen. The liver is an intraperitoneal organ, and lesions of the liver can also lead to localized peritoneal stretching, as well as radiation to the right shoulder and back, while in infectious diseases, including liver abscesses secondary to intestinal infections, the patient may also have significant high fever and chills. In severe cases, infectious shock may also occur, and reactive effusion of the right side of the chest cavity is usually present.
