Is ureteral stenosis a major surgery

Ureteral stenosis is not a major urologic surgery, but a common procedure in urology, which can be accomplished through minimally invasive or open surgery. For mild stenosis, ureteroscopy can be used to dilate the stenosis to achieve cure. However, if the length of the narrowed segment exceeds 2cm, open surgery is required to remove the narrowed ureter. After resection, end-to-end anastomosis of the ureter is performed to re-establish the normal patency of the ureter, or laparoscopic surgery can be performed to complete the resection of the narrowed segment of the ureter. A detailed evaluation is required to further determine the surgical approach, which includes ureterography and cis-ureterography to understand the distance of the narrowed segment, the degree of narrowing, and the degree of hydronephrosis, etc., and to comprehensively select the appropriate surgical plan for the operation. General anesthesia is usually required for the surgery, and the duration of the surgery is about 2 hours, depending on the degree of difficulty of the surgery, which is a common surgery in urology rather than a major surgery.
