Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS)

Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a new neuromodulation therapy technique that applies pulsed magnetic fields to the cerebral cortex thereby regulating the functional state of the brain. Because of its painless, non-invasive, high safety and minimal side effects, it has been used in many developed countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom and Italy in recent years to treat a variety of intractable diseases of the nervous system. Neuromodulation treatment does not have the damage caused by drug or surgical treatment, has no effect on cognitive function, and is inexpensive ($90/session) and easily accepted by patients. Indications Epilepsy, cerebral infarction hemiplegia or aphasia, chronic insomnia, anxiety, depression, dystonia, Parkinson’s disease, chronic pain, tic disorder, autism, restless legs syndrome, etc. Epilepsy Low-frequency magnetic stimulation therapy reduces the frequency of seizures by decreasing the excitatory state of the cerebral cortex, improves abnormal EEG discharges, and has a repairing effect on brain damage caused by epilepsy. Cerebral infarction Magnetic stimulation treatment can improve neuronal excitability, activate inhibited neurons, remodel damaged neural conduction pathways, promote neurological function recovery, accelerate neurological function reorganization, promote hemiplegic limb or language function recovery and improve daily living ability, and the earlier the treatment, the better the effect. Chronic insomnia, anxiety disorder, depression Magnetic stimulation therapy can regulate cortical excitability, regulate sleep, improve insomnia symptoms, relieve depression and anxiety, and reduce the dependence on drugs. Dystonia, tic disorder Magnetic stimulation of cortical areas such as motor areas or supplementary motor areas can improve the dysfunction of the cortical striatum-pallidum-cortical motor loop and reduce the symptoms of abnormal muscle tone and twitching. Parkinson’s disease Magnetic stimulation treatment can promote the release of endogenous dopamine and can inhibit the breakdown of dopamine in the brain, and some patients have a significant reduction in their self-conscious symptoms, as evidenced by the reduction of hand and foot tremors, a sense of ease of movement, and improved mental status. Restless legs syndrome Magnetic stimulation treatment can reduce the number of periodic limb movement disorders and nocturnal awakenings, improve sleep, and improve the quality of life. Autism Magnetic stimulation treatment for autism can enrich the child’s language content, make the child closer and more attached to the family, and develop complete language for the purpose of communication, and reduce or disappear the original stereotypical behavior.
