Do you need a fistula for intestinal obstruction surgery?

Under normal circumstances, if the intestinal obstruction is caused by adhesions, intestinal adhesions can be released and no intestinal resection and anastomosis is generally not necessary to do fistula. In case of small bowel herniation or strangulation causing small bowel necrosis, if the edema is not too serious, we can choose to remove the intestine directly and perform intestinal anastomosis, if the edema is heavy, we can perform prophylactic small bowel fistula. If the obstruction occurs in the large intestine, most of them are caused by tumor, especially in the left hemicolectomy, so we usually do not choose to perform direct intestinal anastomosis, but choose to perform distal closure and proximal colorectal fistula. If the obstruction is caused by tumor in the right hemicolectomy, in this case, the right hemicolectomy can be resected directly and direct intestinal anastomosis can be performed without affecting the fistula and bleeding of the intestinal tube.
