Why facial palsy is slow to recover

Facial palsy, also known as facial nerve palsy, or Bell palsy, is slow to recover. The patient is considered to have facial palsy caused by a neurophilic virus, and the facial palsy is moderate or severe, with a slow recovery. The facial palsy caused by common cold is considered to be mild facial palsy, and the recovery is relatively fast. Facial palsy caused by neurotropic virus is treated with antiviral therapy if necessary, and may be caused by herpes zoster virus. If necessary, hormones should be given to reduce facial nerve edema and nerve nourishing treatment should be given. For moderate to severe facial palsy, it takes about 2-3 months to recover. Some patients with severe facial palsy can still have sequelae after 3 months, and subsequent surgery can be performed if necessary to improve the sequelae of facial palsy.
