Spitting up when baby wakes up from sleep may be caused by overfeeding and indigestion, or it may be caused by the stomach being squeezed or the abdomen being stimulated by cold.
1. Eating too much: If you feed your baby too much milk at once before bedtime, your baby may not be able to fully digest it, so you will spit up after waking up.
2. Stomach squeezed: If the baby sleeps on his/her stomach or squeezes the abdomen during sleep, due to the horizontal shape of the baby’s stomach and the relaxation of the cardia sphincter, spitting up after waking up may occur.
3. Cold stimulation: If the baby does not pay attention to keep the abdomen warm during sleep, the cold stimulation may cause smooth muscle spasm in the abdomen, resulting in spitting up.
