Methotrexate has broad-spectrum antitumor activity and can be used alone or in combination with other chemotherapeutic agents. It can generally be used for the treatment of breast cancer, choriocarcinoma, malignant uveitis, leukemia, and psoriasis. The method of use varies depending on the condition. For example, for choriocarcinoma, the conventional dose is 15-30mg/day for 5 days of intramuscular injection, which usually requires 3-5 courses of treatment. Other breast cancers are usually 40mg/m2 administered intravenously on days 1 and 8. In the case of leukemia, the oral dose is 3.3mg/m2 per day, also combined with prednisone orally. Others, like high-dose chemotherapy, may be given in higher doses and require adequate equipment as well as conditions for the execution of the treatment plan by a specialist. Chemotherapy for psoriasis is usually 15-25mg intramuscularly or intravenously once a week, and may be effective for relatively severe, difficult to control psoriasis.
