Will a hysterectomy affect my sex life?

The uterus and ovaries are important organs of the female reproductive system, but in some special cases they often have to be removed “in pain”. For example, women with malignant tumors of the uterus, some benign uterine tumors, persistent uterine bleeding, some severe endometriosis, and uterine prolapse have to have their uterus removed, and some patients even have to have their unilateral or bilateral ovaries removed at the same time. So, does hysterectomy affect libido and sex life? The answer is no. The function of the uterus is to produce menstruation and to nurture a fetus under the influence of hormones. In the past, it was believed that hysterectomy would reduce vaginal lubrication and make sexual intercourse difficult, which is actually a misconception. Prof. Chung-Chiu Lin shows that the main part of intercourse does not change after hysterectomy. Moreover, the vagina has excellent stretchability and it is still possible to have sexual pleasure and orgasm of sexual response as before surgery. Not only that, but for patients who have painful intercourse due to uterine lesions, they will enjoy sex again after surgery. Many women who have undergone hysterectomy are not worried about menstrual disorders, childbirth, or uterine diseases because the disease has been cured and the factors that caused painful intercourse have been removed, and most of them are even more satisfied with their sex life after surgery than before. Therefore, for these women, hysterectomy not only does not affect women’s sexual function, but to a certain extent can improve women’s sexual ability. The reason why some women feel less sexual function after hysterectomy is because of “inferiority complex”. Professor Lin Zhongqiu said, in fact, this is a negative emotion in the play. Some women will have “inferiority complex” because of hysterectomy, worrying that they are no longer attractive to their husbands, will be cold talk or rejection, inhibit the interest in sex, and some women think that without the uterus is no longer a woman …… these unnecessary worries and misunderstandings can affect the sexual life. These unnecessary worries and misunderstandings can affect the quality of sexual life. The best way to solve such problems is to eliminate the psychological pressure and eliminate misunderstandings, but also need the understanding and concern of the spouse in order to get a satisfactory sex life.
