How to get iron for pregnant women

Pregnant women should take iron supplementation under the guidance of doctors with indications, which can be given according to the degree of anemia, such as iron supplements and blood transfusion.
1. Iron supplementation: When hemoglobin is ≥70g/L, choose drugs for oral iron supplementation as prescribed by doctor, such as polysaccharide iron complex, ferrous sulfate, ferrous succinate and so on. Adverse reactions such as constipation may occur after administration. For those who have serious gastrointestinal reactions or when oral iron is ineffective, they can choose injectable iron, such as iron sucrose, iron dextrose, etc. as prescribed by the doctor.
2. Blood transfusion: most of the pregnant women with iron deficiency anemia will have improvement in hemoglobin after active iron supplementation, and blood transfusion is not needed. However, when the hemoglobin is <70g/L, it is recommended to transfuse small amount and several times of red blood cell suspension or whole blood to correct the anemia, and pay attention to monitor the vital signs of pregnant women to avoid increasing the burden on the heart. Nutrition should be strengthened during pregnancy and more iron-rich foods such as red meat, animal liver or blood should be encouraged. Regular rechecking of routine blood tests is also recommended for early detection of anemia and prompt treatment.
