Symptoms of active rickets

Clinical symptoms of active rickets, mainly include the following. If the child is affected, he or she is prone to crying, irritability, excessive sweating, loss of appetite, wasting, hair loss and square skull easily appear in the occipital area, ping-pong sensation when pressed with fingers, late closure of fontanelle, and delayed growth of teeth, which are not aligned and irregular in shape. The chest may appear as a chicken chest and beaded ribs. In addition, the wrist and ankle joints may be locally enlarged and deformed, and the knee joints may be easily deformed by internal and external rotation. Blood tests may reveal normal or low blood calcium, while blood phosphorus may be significantly low and serum alkaline phosphatase may be elevated. Patients with active rickets should get more sunlight and pay attention to feeding and hygiene, use vitamins and avoid weight-bearing on the lower limbs to prevent bending and deformity.
