Chlamydia pneumoniae is considered a common cause of pneumonia bronchitis and other respiratory infections, and Chlamydia trachomatis, in addition to causing trachoma, is also recognized as one of the infectious agents of sexually transmitted diseases, and should therefore be treated aggressively.
