Best age to remove tonsils

There is no such thing as an optimal age for tonsillectomy; it depends mainly on the patient’s clinical symptoms. In pediatric patients, tonsillectomy can be performed from the age of 3 years if there is a clear indication for surgery. In adult patients, there is no absolute age limit if there are clear indications for surgery, no contraindications for surgery, and anesthesia and other risks are excluded.
Common indications for tonsillectomy include: repeated inflammation of the tonsils; formation of tonsil abscess; induction of immune system diseases such as chronic nephritis, endocarditis, arthritis, etc.; over-enlargement of the tonsils affecting breathing, swallowing, snoring; benign and malignant tumors of the tonsils and other cases.
1. Children patients: the most common indications for tonsillectomy are chronic tonsillitis and tonsillar hypertrophy, if there are clear indications for surgery, exclude relative contraindications to anesthesia, clinically over the age of 3 years can be performed tonsillectomy. Not under 3 years of age can not do surgery, mainly because the child is too small, anesthesia risk increases accordingly, while the tonsil tissue still has a certain immune function.
2. Adult patients: If the patient is an adult, there is no absolute limitation if there is a clear indication for surgery and exclude anesthesia and other related surgical risks.
