What is the prognosis of esophageal cancer?

According to the relevant statistics, the surgical resection rate of domestic patients with esophageal cancer is 42.6% and their five-year survival rate is 11.7%, compared to the 30.8% resection rate and 4% five-year survival rate in Europe and the United States (Postlethwait, 1986), which show that surgical resection can only cure some patients. Surgical resection The five-year survival rate after resection of esophageal cancer is quite poor, ranging from 5% to 30%, but in the case of early-stage esophageal cancer, the five-year survival rate can be 65-90%. Therefore, palliative therapies such as surgical rerouting, radiation therapy, chemotherapy and other treatments such as intubation, photochemotherapy, endoscopic dilatation, etc. can temporarily provide patients with a chance to improve their symptoms.
