Whether or not a superficial ulcer of the terminal ileum is life-threatening depends on the patient’s specific condition and cannot be generalized. Most of the patients are not life threatening, but a few patients with severe or prolonged disease may be life threatening. Shallow ulcers at the end of the ileum can be caused by infections, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, and so on. After treatment with anti-infective drugs such as levofloxacin and cefixime for intestinal infections, shallow ulcers at the end of the ileum will heal and improve, and are usually not life threatening. Ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease caused by shallow ulcers at the end of the ileum is the root cause of autoimmune abnormalities, usually using azathioprine, methotrexate, salicylazosulfapyridine, methylprednisolone and other medications, the condition can usually be relieved, the patient is not life-threatening. Some patients with ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease have toxic megacolon, carcinoma and hemorrhage, which can be life threatening. Shallow ulcers at the end of the ileum should go to the hospital in a timely manner to improve the examination, to clarify the cause of the disease and then give targeted treatment.
