Facial aging is a major manifestation of human aging. As we age, important changes occur at all levels of the facial tissues, including bone resorption at the lateral infraorbital rim and alveolar bone, which affects the support of the midface as well as decreases the overall height of the face. Deep soft tissue atrophy and laxity of tissue ligaments and skin ligaments can lead to loss of overall tissue volume and facial depression or sagging. Reduced skin elasticity and collagen loss can cause wrinkles to form, exacerbated by prolonged UV exposure and smoking.
